What is Poetry to Me…

For me poetry is a means to share the inner most part of myself in a form of art. No matter the situation, the trial, the tribulations, or the joy and excitement…poetry can capture it and make it beautiful and appreciated. I feel like I can make messages out of my messes, my battles, my victories…whatever it is, I can express it with poetry!!  It’s an outlet, a friend, a lover, a high, a low, a truth seeker, and a lie revealer. It’s. the. reflection. of. my. soul.

Do you see me?

Not just physically before you….

do you “see me?”

Past my 5’1 frame my hair untamed my Christian name….

Past the tears my eyes have spilled,

past the scars my heart has healed.

Past the mountains that I’ve climbed and the valleys where I trudged.

past my battle of choices and consequence.

My victories and defeats. Do you see me?

The fear behind the woman inside

The secrets the lies the hellos and goodbyes broken promises and failed attempts.

But… do you see ME?

My mind uprooted of all negative weeds

Miracle growth no sticks no seeds.

A changed me? No…just ME changed.

No longer do I see “her” who was me

or rather who I was taught and told to be.

I see ME, no titles, no stigmas, no complexes.

I see ME, a mess of MY own beautiful perfections..

Aware now who I see

is NOT determined by labels

or the eyes Of the worlds round table…

only ME!!

I am perfect, beautiful, smart, kind, caring, giving,determined ambitious,good, nurturing, a leader, a QUEEN…
